Event date: 10/1/2026 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM Export event NASWAZ Chapter / Wednesday, September 23, 2026 / Categories: Community Calendar National Homelessness Law Center Briefing The National Homelessness Law Center and other homelessness organizations are hosting a targeted briefing and discussion about responding to criminalizing homelessness. You are receiving this message because your chapter is based in one of the 22 states that is being targeted by the Cicero Institute, a Texas-based right-wing think tank focusing on criminalizing homelessness. Based on recent memos Cicero sent to governors and legislators in these states urging them to “comply” with Trump’s anti-homeless Executive Order, we now have a clearer picture of the policies they are seeking to advance. These proposals are not just about homelessness – Cicero also wants to expand civil commitment, force people into treatment, and dismantle the organizations that protect people’s rights. That’s why we need all hands on deck to respond. On Thursday, October 1st from 2-3pm ET, national homelessness organizations are hosting a targeted briefing and discussion bringing together organizations in these 22 states who work across issue areas, but with a shared interest in opposing Cicero’s disastrous agenda. During the briefing, you’ll learn about what’s in the memos, what they tell us about Cicero’s playbook for 2027, and how you can join together with aligned partners in your state to fight back. We need you to share your expertise to this conversation and join us in building powerful coalitions to ensure everyone has the housing and support they need to thrive.
